Police: Mahwah man arrested after chasing, crashing into car and wielding baseball bat

A road rage incident beginning in Upper Saddle River ended in physical violence as a man pulled a bat out of his car during an argument with another driver, authorities said.

David Ruffman, 77, was arrested on aggravated assault and reckless driving charges after he allegedly chased another driver through the streets of Upper Saddle River and Mahwah and approached the other driver with a bat, said Mahwah Police Chief James Batelli.

An investigation revealed that Ruffman was driving North on East Crescent Avenue in Upper Saddle River when the other driver merged onto the road, reportedly cutting Ruffman off.

Ruffman proceeded to chase down the other driver, crashing into the other car and forcing him to the side of the road, according to police.
